Great Words Of A Taoist!
"To knowledge add things everyday, to attain wisdom, remove things everyday"
- Lao tzu
It can be interpreted as, 'add' means attaining more knowledge. Which only adds to your ego, and makes you full of pride. 'I know' is the biggest hindrance in your spiritual growth. That's ego.
If you really know, then your life must be managed properly and joyously. But it's not like that. You are in confusion, life is in conflict.
On the other hand, when you 'remove' things which means, let yourself free and accept that you don't know. And then you are willing to change. This willingness to change, will be a catalyst to your growth. When there is change, only then improvement is possible. Same with your life. So, don't be afraid of change.
Removing what isn't needed. Removing all the prejudices, assumptions related to life. Which isn't helping you to grow. Remove this ego. Remove your illusionary identities.
Today, accept that you don't know. Accept the authority of scriptures and true gurus. Seek their guidance. They know how to live a fulfilled life. Still doubtful? Look at their lives, just full of joy and ecstasy. There is no reason for this ecstacy, because they have lost their mind. To lose the mind, to remove the ego is what this quote means. That's the way to attain wisdom.
