Exploring Fear
The truth is that the fundamental driving force of the majority of humans is fear. Without fear, we don't even feel motivated to do anything. Desire also drives us. However, I'll not cover desire in this article.
Today psychology also proves fear is essential for making people do certain things. Although not a healthy emotion, it proves to be useful in controlling people. Mind you, control is not always bad. The people who are unaware of the consequences and live in their dream world need a simple dose of fear from time to time. Let's say there is no punishment for traffic offenses, it's natural that nobody will wear a helmet, or everyone will drive fast. Most of us don't think about the negative consequences of forthcoming situations. In cases like these fear is necessary, essentially when people don't tend to think for their own good
Our society mostly has followers, who blindly accept the herd mentality. A part of the reason is that man is a social animal. Only a few have critical thinking ability and creativity. Others depend on social approval. It may sound harsh or too direct but most have not developed their brains or using only a little of it. They are extremely unconscious of their thoughts, actions, and even their existence.
The whole human race functions on different facets of fear. From the fear of judgment, fear of missing out, fear of losing job to fear of death. We are trapped in this emotion without even being conscious. Our actions from day to night revolve around fear. How are you sticking with your job that you hate? You have a fear of not surviving in life. Ultimately, it is fear of death that makes you do things that you are doing right now. The fear of not-existing is deep and unexamined.
Once we become aware of its presence, how we deal with it becomes a choice. This is called conscious living. The first and foremost step to conscious living is knowing yourself, your deep-rooted fears, desires, personality, certain repeated patterns in your actions, and why you think the way you think,. Once all of this becomes clear in your head, you'll live an exceptionally conscious life. In order to really get this, self-introspection is the way. Spend time alone and ponder on these ideas.
Wow.. great speculation. I agree with you about fear being the driving force for most of the part but again it is not the only thing that makes us live the way we do and also the concept of fear is very subjective and the intensity with which it affects someone's life decisions may also vary.
